Is there a Secret Weapon to Reverse the Ageing Process?

Question*

I am in my late thirties and I am beginning to notice that I’m losing that youthful glow. It seems that the ageing process is really starting to kick in. I understand that inevitably we will all get old one day, but I want to do it gracefully – however, it’s happened almost overnight. You must have a secret weapon at Jill Zander to reverse the ageing process?

Lilly, Bookham

Answer

Our skin does age as time passes, and the worst damaging culprits are sunlight, pollution and smoking.

I would start with some microdermabrasion treatments – a wonderful way to remove dead cells, brighten the complexion and improve skin texture. Follow this with IPL (Intense Pulse Light) to further improve skin tone and stimulate collagen production. You should definitely include in your daily skincare routine an antioxidant serum – try SkinCeuticals Phloretin C. It helps to destroy the damaging free radicals created by sun exposure and pollution and increases the effectiveness of your sunscreen.

On the dietary front I would recommend you increase your intake of antioxidant rich food such as blueberries, broccoli and spinach, and take supplements such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Vitamin E.

How Can I Deal with Oily and Acne Prone Skin?

Question*

My skin is so oily and tends to be acne prone. I can’t wear make-up or powder and my skin is very shiny all the time. I have tried skincare products specifically for oily skin but they do not seem to do anything to correct the problem. I have even carried around blotting paper for oily skin and saturate sheet after sheet. What is going on?

Siobhan, Esher

Answer

There is a saying that ‘oily skin is a blessing in disguise’ because you are spared the wrinkles as you approach your midlife! However, most people with oily skin find this scant compensation in the short term.

First of all, invest in a range of skincare such as Jan Marini that combines glycolic and salicylic acid. This helps to exfoliate the skin and prevents the pores from becoming blocked and will conceal the shine you complain of. Dermaquest also have special face wipes containing salicylic acid, and we recommend you use these during the day or after the gym or exercise.

We treat oily skin in the salon with a light glycolic peel followed by microdermabrasion. If the skin is congested I would recommend that we follow on with a deep pore-cleansing facial, which involves the extraction of blackheads, whiteheads and impurities using special sterile equipment.

Also, speak to Natalie, our make-up specialist, and she will demonstrate the Jane Iredale mineral cosmetics, which include a range for oily skin.

How Can I Deal with Tired, Grey and Dull Skin?

Question*

I feel so tired at the moment, and my skin looks grey and dull. Ideally I need a skin miracle fast or a facelift in a bottle. I have a very busy schedule of meetings planned and I really want to look my best for Christmas and New Year!

Melanie, Weybridge

Answer

This is such a common cry this time of the year and, as I read, I suspect time is precious, so here are a few things you can do at home that will only take minutes.

Start by using a gentle facial scrub, like the Guinot Gommage Biologique, to lift off the dead cells and impurities that always accumulate and dull the complexion and add to that grey winter pallor. Rinse off thoroughly and then follow immediately with a mask to revive and restore skins radiance, Guinot do a fab one, Masque Essentiel. Apply your moisturiser whilst the skin is still damp – this really gives an amazingly dewy fresh look to the skin. Now apply a few drops of “PRIME”, an innovative facial primer from Jan Marini.

The skin immediately takes on an airbrushed effect, creating a radiant, plumped and refined surface.

This can be worn alone or with your foundation for an incredibly smooth and long-wearing finish. The skin looks polished and beautifully reflective while pores and imperfections are minimized.

Good luck in your career, and I’m sure you will always stay many steps ahead of the competition.

Warm regards,

Jill Zander
