What can I do about my hands?

Question*

What can I do about my hands? They are dry and full of dark spots, and wrinkly where my skin is loose. My mother always used to say “Look at the neck and the hands of a women and you can tell their true age”! With this in mind, my hands look about 20 years older than I am!

Ginette, Weybridge

Answer

Ginette, your mother is right. It is often said that even if a woman has a youthful face, her hands and neck can give away her age.

As we age the skin becomes thinner, losing fat and elasticity. Exposure to the sun, detergents and water also take their toll, showing up as age spots and dry, loose, flaccid skin.

All this to betray our age!

However, with all the technical advances in our industry we can now do a lot to reverse this condition.

A warm Paraffin Wax Mask will do wonders to immediately address the problem of dryness, and the added bonus is that it is deeply relaxing and soothing. It also appears to plump the skin, making wrinkles and loose skin appear firmer. However, a cosmetic doctor can also recommend his/her preferred Dermal Filler, which is amazing for giving instant volume to slack, loose skin. IPL Photo Rejuvenation is the best way to tackle age spots on the hands. The results are quite dramatic. Also try red L.E.D. light technology which works with the body’s own natural processes to counteract the effects of ageing by increasing collagen production. N.B. Always remember to put sunscreen on your hands every day.

How can I Maintain Youthful Skin?

Question*

My 50-year-old friend has the most beautiful, glowing skin. How has she managed to maintain this youthful skin? I know that she hasn’t had botox and I know that she tones and moisturises her skin daily – don’t we all? It would be wrong to say that I was envious of her complexion, but I confess, I am a little bit. However, I never really noticed her complexion until I started to notice my own skin ageing. Is it too late for me?

Laura, Cobham

Answer

It is never too late, and I always maintain that in order to preserve a youthful complexion you have to work on three aspects, namely, the Texture, the Tone, and the Tightening (the three T’s). With today’s advances in beauty technology this is achievable as there is so much to choose from.

Starting with skin texture – to improve our skin we have to get rid of the dead cells which so dull the complexion and are there as a result of a slower skin cell turnover, and the best way to do this is to have a course of microdermabrasion to mechanically take off that dead outer horny layer. I also recommend pumpkin enzyme peels, light glycolic acid peels or deeper TCA peels to chemically remove the dead outermost layer of skin cells.

To improve the tone and even out dull, blotchy skin, IPL (Intense Pulse Light) is the most effective method to achieve that ‘clean, clear, refreshed look’. And then, finally, tighten: to tighten the jowls, lift sagging contours and restore elasticity, EndyMed 3Deep is the best ‘thermal facelift’ around. EndyMed is rapidly becoming established as the ‘must have’ skin tightening treatment available.

How can I Tone Up and Trim Down this New Year?

Question*

It is a new year and I would appreciate some advice on how to tone up and trim down. I would be lying if I said I enjoy the gym, but however I do force myself to go twice a week. I try to be careful about my diet, but my hips and stomach are quite resistant to diet and exercise these days. Could this be middle-age spread? I am now beginning to despair!

Claire, Esher

Answer

I think I have the answer for you. In fact I know I have! Try Accent, which provides controlled volumetric heating therapy to selected problem areas using dual layer radio frequency. This helps to break down fat and rebuild collagen. You will definitely enjoy inch loss, skin firming and tightening. Although Accent boasts this amazing technology, it is not surgery and there is no recovery time. You can go straight back to work or home without anyone being any the wiser.

Combine this with our new Endymed 3Deep for truly the most amazing results ever. This is the latest technology for the ultimate in skin tightening. Using uniquely focussed radio frequency it immediately tightens existing collagen and helps to promote further collagen synthesis. We have just introduced this into the clinic and our clients are amazed at the results using the combined therapies
